Jamaica is the first largest island in the Caribbean Sea, about 965 kilometres south of Miami, surrounded by picturesque mountains and known as the birthplace of reggae. The island’s name, Jamaica, came from the word Xaymaca (called by Arawak), which means “land of springs” or “land of water and wood”. The official language is English so there will be no problem to understand the locals.
This stunning corner of paradise offers travellers amazing beaches with turquoise water and coral reefs, beautiful mountains, delicious rum, aromatic local Blue Mountain Coffee and all the African vibe.
Every traveller will find lots of things to do in Jamaica. You can take a tour in a jungle river, experience the bird watching, try the reggae sunset catamaran cruise, swim with the dolphins, take a historical rum or coffee tour, have a hike in the Konoko Falls Rainforest, visit Bob Marley Museum or snorkel along the surrounding reefs. You will also find some of the Caribbean’s most luxurious all-inclusive resorts there.
One of the most popular resort towns is never sleeping Montego Bay. There’s an incredible amount of exciting things to do there including lying on the brilliant wide sandy beaches or playing golf in the shade of palm trees. Port Antonio is so peaceful so you can enjoy the holidays surrounded by spectacular mountains. Ocho Rio is famous for its amazing gardens, lazy rivers and spectacular waterfalls. Negril is mostly known for long sandy beaches including the most beautiful one – Seven Mile Beach.

When to go
Jamaica is in a tropical climate zone, which means warm summers, autumns, springs and a little bit cooler winters. There is a higher chance of rain between May and November. Do not worry, the rain will not ruin your holidays as it is usually followed by the sunshine, quickly begins, and quickly ends. High season on the island starts in December and continues till April. In this period the average temperature reaches 32°C. This is the best way for Europeans and North Americans to escape from the cold winter. Travelling in November is a good alternative if you want to experience a quieter island for a better value. We recommend booking all the hotels in advance, because the closer is the travel date, the more expensive you will pay.
