Always best vacation

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Once again the Best vacation. 2nd time to Galley Bay and when we came back they really treat you like family. We travel all over the Caribbean & Mexico and don’t like to go to the same Resort but after going to Galley Bay in 2017 we had to come back in 2018. The rooms have been upgraded & are beautiful. Food is always great. When we go to the Caribbean we want seafood & Galley Bay always has the freshest seafood.
Now to the best part-the staff. This place has the best staff. Starting with the Property Manager Cedric. He is so visible and really wants to get to know each & every guest. He not only cares for the guests but he truly cares & respects the staff. It starts at the top management. If you have great and happy management, you will have great and happy staff. This reflects on all the staff.
We can not wait to return in 2019.

Possibly one of the best hotels on the island

super hotel the staff cannot do enough for you. I have stayed at Galley Bay 24 times over the past 30 years. it is fabulous and will return next year for another 10 day holiday with good restaurants and first class chefs.

Anniversary Bliss

Was trying to capture why we loved this place and I think because it was so beautiful but not commercialized in the least. The Resort and town of St. John’s had all the modern amenities we needed, but no skyscrapers, traffic or noise. The Resort itself was relatively small and therefore we became friends with many of the guests and staff. The water was crystal perfect. I also slept very comfortably ourenrire stay. Live music played in the evenings and we danced the nights away earning the nickname the Texas Twinkle Toes.
The resident manager, Cedric, was so gracious and was everywhere checking on us and the other guests. The grounds were amazing. We spent time with the supervisor, Curt, whose passion for his plants and flowers was so apparent.

Relax with fine quality service and amenities

From the start to the end, this was an enjoyable vacation. We were greeted upon arrival with smiles and cocktails. Our suite well appointed. The meals and service excellent. And the beach, grounds and weather heavenly. Well worth going to this resort and we learned of many repeat patrons.

Galley Bay - Really enjoyed it.

Had a great time here for 7 days.Rooms are nice, but get a room without anyone on top of you. Premium beach front was what I got.The staff are great, local management like cedric are great and accessible to clients.Other names that were great and helped us were: In the restaurant - Troya- she was so kind and sweet to us. At the Bar- Peter made us feel good ordering drinksDave- Supervisor at F&B made us laugh and feel welcome!Joann at guest services - she helped us with towels and DVD rentals!Grenville checked us in and helped at guest services, very helpful guy!Javid was cool, made us feel welcome driving us to room!Chesley- Sweet man! We had some laughs because he was waiting for me to drink my wine patiently so he could refill. Such a great guy!Kerry at bar was fun and had a beautiful smile for us and the other lady (forgot her name, but she complimented Kelly my girlfriend that couldn't wait to see what she wore eacy day - my girlfirend is still talking about that :-)I know I forgot to mention someone and I feel horrible about that. Too many nice people to remember!Didn't go to Ismay's ...resreach told me Seagrape and Gaugin were good enough. Lobster upgrade was worth it ---get the thermador styleMassages were nice... Snorkeling was awesome. For Latte's use the machine at the bar. Much easier than the one in the library near gift shop.

Coming Home

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

This was our third visit to Galley Bay and again it was another perfect holiday. The renovations since the hurricane have enhanced what was already an amazing place. It was so lovely to see all the wonderful staff again and were welcomed as family and treated as such with a card in our room with welcome home on and a bottle of Champagne. The food is just as wonderful as it always is and every meal you have is had with a view that is just perfect. It is so hard to describe to people just how wonderful the place is, you just have a feeling of belonging. We would like to mention some staff who made our stay so special, Alex and Cedric, (it was good to see Cedric looking so well), Timothy who goes out of his way to make everything just right, Chesley who is such a character and so good at what he does. Also a big shout out to Denval, Sadie, Troya, Keitha, Maudlyn, Tina, Bridesphine, Ava-Gay, Andrea and not forgetting Trevon, the popsicle man and the water sports guys, there are so many others, they are all so special.

Wonderful

A little piece of paradise

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We stayed at the Galley Bay for 11 days in August in a beachfront room. If you’re looking for a relaxing, tranquil place to unwind, look no further. The staff are wonderful, the food is excellent and the location is absolutely beautiful.

The Room
The room was large and spacious. It was equipped with powerful a/c that is easily manageable. If you like it ice cold (like me!) it’s possible. The furniture and decor are a little dated - but in all honesty, you won’t spend much time in there. There is snorkelling gear and the usual toiletries, extra blankets and a walk in closet. It was great for us. They have front and rear porches, so relaxing later in the day with a cold beer and a view of the ocean is possible from the room. My only ‘issue’ - and I use that world lightly - is the lack of room service. It would be great if you could order snacks to the rooms.

The Food
All of the restaurants are great. It’s not your usual giant buffet, but an a la carter menu in each place that I had options for everyone. The food was always good and the service was always with a smile. Breakfast is always my favourite meal and they did not disappoint. The continental options are delicious and the menu has great eggs benedict! While service is slower, it’s well worth the wait. The lunches at the barefoot grill were a perfect midday snack and a nice change from the formal dinners.
Drinks at the hotel are great. I highly recommend a chocolate smoothie with baileys. And be careful at the rum shack. :)

Pool/Beach
The pool at the hotel was fantastic. Never too noisy or busy. I never had to look for a sun bed. At times I felt like the hotel was open for only us. It was great. The waterfall is a great addition. The poolside service was perfect. The popsicles were a nice touch.
The beach has some spots great for swimming and great for snorkelling. The water is warm and calm.

Activities
We didn’t do too much - but we did do an afternoon boat tour with Captain Sean. It’s a great trip and well worth the $$. The scenery is amazing and the snorkelling at Cades Reef was awesome. His chicken and rice was also delicious. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon.

This is a great resort. It’s not cheap - but it’s well worth the money if you want quiet, relaxing, romantic. No kids. No loud music or ‘animation team’. It’s a proper holiday.

Thank you to the Galley Bay team for making our holiday one to remember. I’m sure we’ll be back.

Outstanding!!

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Just returned from Galley Bay Resort in Antigua, an absolutely beautiful all inclusive, full service beach front resort with outstanding service, and excellent food.

Kudos to the staff at the restaurants, the daily housekeeping crew, and the maintenance staff for always being so professional and positive.

Thank you all for a quiet, relaxing holiday. I intend to return for another week long stay.

Better Than Ever!!!

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Just came back from our 7th visit to Galley Bay. It was by far our best vacation ever. We just love it there!! The people that work there will go out of their way to make sure all your needs are met and you are enjoying yourself. The rooms on the beach can’t be beat! They are fabulous! Hanging out at the pool with the bar help coming around to take orders was a great treat!!
The frozen fruit ices they brought around were wonderful ! The food can’t be beat... Every meal is ala cart .. prepared by a master chef who is creative, innovative and has vegetarian & gluten free options on the menu. They think about everything here! You can relax your day away or. BIke ride, go to the gym, play tennis, jog, go for a massage at the beautiful spa or go to water sports and kayak, paddle board and go out on a catamaran. There is fabulous snorkeling at the beach and there is snorkel equipment in every room. The evening entertainment was very good as was the Caribbean bbq on Thursday nite. The rum shack is great as is the coffee shop . If you are looking at Galley Bay .. Book It!!
I know I am for next year!!

Amazing place for a getaway

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Our stay was just simply too short! The staff are amazing! They go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The rooms and grounds are gorgeous. And who wouldn't love stepping onto the beach straight from their room? The food was impeccable the menus are filled with lots of tasty and creative options. I was also very happy to see some of the local antiguan favorites such as the Bullfoot Soup offered as an option. We will definitely be back to Galley Bay Resort and Spa. Special thanks to Timothy Damond Stefaney and Javid. They are truly assets to the operation.

Honeymoon in Paradise

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

The grounds, room, staff and views were absolutely perfect! We stayed in a second floor room that opened to the most perfect view. We felt very welcomed and safe upon arriving. We enjoyed beach days, pool time, snorkeling and sailing with Captian Sean all right from the resort. We lived the beach grill for a casual lunch during the day and enjoyed the different dinner options available, including a splurge for a beach dinner at Ismays.

Our wonderful holiday at Galley Bay

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We had the recent pleasure of staying at Galley Bay for 11 nights. The hotel was recommended to us by my parents, who are repeat guests. As such, we arrived with very high expectations and were not disappointed.

When we arrived following a long flight, we were greeted warmly with a drink and were swiftly taken across the lagoon by golf cart to our room. Although we had arrived early in advance of the advised check in time, our room was ready for us. This short trip gave us a wonderful view of the lagoon which is beautiful and populated by all sorts of wildlife. We saw a huge variety of birds, lizards and even a mongoose. The abundance of natural predators meant that we didn’t encounter many insects, which was a bonus!

We had chosen a beachfront suite, which was large and very well-appointed. As it was my husband’s birthday, we were brought a fruit plate and a bottle of champagne, which was much appreciated. It’s thoughtful touches like this that set Galley Bay apart from the competition. In our room were robes, toiletries, snorkels and refillable water bottles. The bottles especially were very useful, and we kept these topped up using the ‘rehydration stations’ dotted about the resort. Our balcony had two very comfortable loungers which overlooked the sea and had a spectacular view down the bay. The room was sympathetically decorated, and the bed was one of the comfiest we’ve slept in, with what looked to be a memory foam topper above the mattress.

The food was a high point for us. Due to, we would imagine, low occupancy, some of the restaurants were shut on certain days, but this never caused us a problem. The Seagrape restaurant offered a variety of appetizer and entree options for dinner, and the food was delicious, with a different seafood offering every day. We also ate there for breakfast and appreciated the range of a la carte options. The egg dishes were fantastic! There was a small continental buffet for breakfast, but other than that, meals were served a la carte. We also ate at the Gaugin for lunch and dinner, which offered excellent food in a beautiful setting (covered pagodas on the beach). The service at both restaurants was exceptional, and we noted that all servers had been trained in fine dining service, which was another lovely touch. We ate at Ismay’s one evening. This restaurant is not included as part of the all inclusive package and costs extra. While we thought the food was exceptional, as was the service, we only went once as the $80 odd extra charge was perhaps too much when the rest of the food at the resort is so good. The final restaurant was the Barefoot Grill, where you fill in an order slip and then eat burgers, hot dogs or quesadillas in a relaxed setting right next to the beach. We enjoyed eating here some days as it meant we didn’t have to change out of our swimwear and interrupt our time at the pool or on the beach.

The two bars, the Teepee and the Seagrape, offered a range of high quality alcohol with knowledgable staff and were an excellent place for a drink and a chat. While Galley Bay is a quiet resort, the staff and other guests are very sociable. There is entertainment each night in the form of local singers or a band, and the resort offers excursions, although we didn’t take advantage of these.

The beach and pool are both relaxing and beautiful, with plenty of seating. The rocks close to the shore offer wonderful opportunities for snorkelling, and we saw many different types of fish, so the snorkels in the rooms were a nice touch. Our only suggestion to the management would be to install more shade on the beach. There are few trees, and we found that we couldn’t safely sit on the beach for very long at all so would often retreat to our balcony. There are wooden ‘umbrellas’ at the pool and near the Gaugin, so perhaps some of these could be placed?

Galley Bay benefits from a stunning location, excellent accommodation and truly exceptional staff. Everyone we spoke to was friendly, knowledgable and eager to help us. They are a credit to the resort.

What we wanted from this holiday was to unwind, relax in each other’s company and enjoy beautiful scenery and food. We would definitely return to what’s now our favourite hotel in the Caribbean. Thank you, Galley Bay!

Excellent Honeymoon experience

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

I visited Galley Bay back in May of 2017 for my honeymoon and I'm glad i chose them. I was there for 6 nights and enjoyed every day of it. The people were extremely friendly and accommodating.

Food: the food was nothing short of extra spectacular. Perfect portions and fresh every day. From breakfast to dinner and everything in between. There are several restaurants to visits but cant go wrong with any of them.

Activities: Note, this is a quieter resorts for adults looking to have a relaxing and good time. If you are looking for a party like atmosphere this is not it. There are some activities to do while there such as kayaking, snorkeling, etc. In addition, there were times where someone with a Jet ski will come and offer it but i chose not take it.

Room: The room was excellent. We were given the floor level of a premium beachfront suite. You were just steps from the beach which was amazing. The bathroom is also large. Included two shower heads and a Jacuzzi. His and here sinks as well as robes were provided.

Honeymoon package: this included a private dinner on the beach champagne. The dinner on the beach was a great experience and again food was amazing. There were however 3 other couples a few feet away from you. The private dinner date is chosen upon arrival.

Conclusion: if you are looking for a relaxed vacation with great food and weather then look no further. This vacation was the icing on the cake for my wedding. My wife and i enjoyed and would definable recommend it.

Galley Bay for Adults, Yay!

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We are back from the Galley Bay, Antigua. We had a very nice time, quiet, and relaxing. The resort is a traditional Caribbean resort that has been freshly redone, gated, fenced, in a private cove with beautiful trees , shrubs and flowers. The service people were very friendly. We had the villa which was nice with the plunge pool, backyard on the pond. The other units were on the beach, one or two stories, they each had two chairs on the beach. The beach was a nice private cove, short beach, water a little wavy. They have some sand missing I think from the hurricanes, so the water entry had some coral you had to navigate. We heard they had transportation to a nearby cove so people could swim at a more tranquil cove if they wanted. The tee pee bar was right on the beach as were the three restaurants so you were never really far from the waters edge. The pool was nice with a waterfall and had palapas and chairs around it with enough space for privacy. There was a tennis court, boccie, croquet, and water sports and a yoga hut, and a small sundry store. It was all inclusive in a restaurant sort of way, no buffet, but menu driven for all three meals with options for appetizer, main dish and dessert. Shorts and shirts requested for breakfast, modest beach cover up for lunch , and dress for dinner, literally dress, skirt, maxi, nice pants for women and collared shirt and pants for men. There is one very small beach grill for a burger or chicken if you don't want to take the time to go eat lunch. There is a small band for some music after dinner. The drinks were very good.

Our only concern was that if you did not have a beach front room, you could not really sit on the beach. There were only lounge chairs for the beach front units on the beach at our end of the resort, and no umbrellas for shade even if you wanted to try to use a chair for a room that may not be occupied to sit on the beach for a bit , you would have to commit to the sun. We did not feel comfortable using the beach chairs since someone told us they were only for the beach unit rooms. Not sure if that was accurate , but it seemed to be the protocol. At the other end of the resort we did find a grouping of extra chairs and a few umbrellas, but they would probably get taken fast and were far from our room so we had to commit to the pool area that does not have a view of the beach. So, I would recommend the resort get some extra lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach for all to share, even just and extra set in front of each room would not impact the beach front rooms all that much since they also had chairs on their deck in the shade facing the beach. If you are really a beach person, reserve a beach unit.

It is an adult only resort, 16 and over, but I would like to stress that the week we were there, the average couple was in their 70's or 80's. We are in our 50's and probably close to the youngest at the resort. But, it would be wonderful for any age couple that just wants to relax at the beach , read, swim, dine. They did have a gazebo for weddings and a fancier small beach front restaurant that looked nice. We did not see any singles and only two adult children with family.

We would definitely go back for another vacation. Although the villas were nice and private, I personally would would reserve a beach front unit to be able to sit on the beach.

"This Must Be Just Like Living In Paradise"

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

I really hate to write this review for fear that the secret might get out....
I have travelled to many Caribbean Islands and Mexico, mostly all-inclusive resorts. This resort is number one in almost every category.

BEACH
The most aqua clear gorgeous water you have ever seen. The sand is soft, there are rocks when you get in the water at first, so do bring aqua socks. One of the things that makes the resort so special overall is the fact that there are not that many rooms in the entire resort. What that means is you will NEVER have to fight for a beach lounger or pool lounger. Many times I was in the ocean and I was the ONLY person at the resort in the water. In the middle of the day. The beach is quite large so there is plenty of room to spread out and there are chairs everywhere and never an issue. There is also no crowding, so you can spend quiet time on your chair without having someone right up next to you. There is plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Every room has two snorkel equipment sets in it. You can use your snorkel equipment and go out in the water right on the resort. The snorkeling I did at this resort was the best I have ever done. Incredible tropical fish right in front of the resort. It was like a gorgeous aquarium right under the sea and you don't have to leave the resort. I was mesmerized for hours just floating around watching the fish. There is a water sports hut on the beach where you can take out paddleboards, kayaks, hobie cats all included in your stay and there never seemed to be a wait for any of the equipment either. The beach is a tropical tranquil paradise beyond compare!

FOOD
Unfortunately, this is where I think Galley Bay comes in at just good and not excellent. It is all inclusive and they do not do the typical all-inclusive buffets, which is fine. The breakfast was nice, all sorts of eggs and pancakes you can order and a small buffet with breads, fruits, meats if you wish. Dinner was always table service in two restaurants and one restaurant, Ismays, you can pay extra to eat in for a more upscale dining experience. I did not partake in Ismays, so I cannot comment on that. The other two restaurants were good, a typical fish dish, a piece of steak and a chicken variety every night. The menu denoted gluten free and vegetarian options, which was helpful for me being gluten free. Lunch was really the most difficult. They sometimes have their main restaurant, Seagrape, open for lunch, which was okay. Their higher class restaurant, Gaugin, was some days open for lunch and was very good but service is very slow and I didn't want to take two hours out of the middle of the day to eat lunch. So the option was the Barefoot Grill, which was an outdoor "café" outside on the beach. They offered burgers, fries, a catch of the day. The ladies working the grill were very nice but it's super slow and I don't think the resort was at capacity. It was a challenge to eat healthfully if you are eating there for lunch every day. I think lunch was their greatest downfall. There is a coffee shop that is open all day. There is no one working there so it is self serve coffee and they leave some pastries out, some days were gluten free, which I could eat but it was slim pickings in that coffee shop.

BAR
There is a beautiful outdoor bar by the beach. Never a wait to get a drink and such a beautiful view! I was fortunate enough that one night I was there the Rum Shack was open. The Rum Shack had many premium rums to try and a very informative staff member guiding you through the tasting process. It was a lot of fun and a unique experience. There are no drinks served on the beach but you can walk up to the bar and get one and bring it back with ease and at the pool there is a server coming by to take drink orders. Drinks were delicious and easy to get at all times.

STAFF
Wow, what lovely people in Antigua. The staff were helpful and friendly. I encountered a few staff members who weren't up to par, but that was the exception more than the rule. Iba in Guest Services is a true gem. Go to his orientation the first day you are there and he will teach you everything you need to know about the resort and the island and Iba is available at the guest desk to make your every wish come true. Thank you, Iba!

YOGA
Wow wow wow. I have practiced yoga for 12 years and consider myself quite advanced. Many times when you go on vacation, the vacation yoga is pretty bad. Not so at Galley Bay. They have a world class instructor, Mackenzie, who offers yoga every weekday morning. It is such a well run class for beginner to advanced and Mackenzie knows just how to tailor the class to everyone's needs. AND the yoga is in a hut on the beach so the views are stunning while you are practicing and you don't have to put your yoga mat in the sand because it's inside this open air hut. I would come back to this resort just for the yoga.

THE VIBE
This is a sophisticated, elegant, quiet resort. There is not a lot of nightlife, a band every night that sometimes plays music to dance to, sometimes relaxed music. Music is done by approximately 11. There is never loud music annoying you here. You get to listen to the lapping waves relax you. There are bicycles to ride around the resort, you can even borrow fishing equipment to fish in their lagoon. This is a relaxed, adults-only resort. If you want extraordinary beach views, wonderful service, no hassles, this is the place for you. If you want a lot of organized activities and loud music and partying, you would be best suited to go somewhere else.
As for me, I will be one of the many "repeaters" they have at Galley Bay because it was a true paradise!

Exquisite stay at Galley Bay

5/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Our time at Galley Bay was nothing short of the best. It has everything you need, want and desire all on their beautiful, lush and private grounds. Our beach front room was spacious, clean, comfortable and offered us a fabulous view of the turquoise Antigua waters. The service was exceptional and the food was outstanding. Every meal was delicious. Galley Bay far exceeded our expectations. A must go!

Galley Bay Antigua, Our piece of Wakanda!

5/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

his resort was amazing! The room, the people, the view, the food and the activities just awesome.
This resort is laid back for couples and that is what we wanted, we celebrated my husband's birthday and our anniversary. We were so sad that we had to come back home.

Amazing Time at Galley Bay!!

5/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

This is our second time at Antigua, and we decided to change the resort to Galley Bay, that was win-win!! It’s all-inclusive resort, food was unbelievably good, no buffets.. you have a seat and get a menu for breakfast, lunch or dinner! They have a really good chiefs there, I’m a picky eater, they satisfied me 100%! Rooms are nice!! Right on the beach, especially rooms 10,12,14,16. They had been renovated since hurricane last year! Most of activities are included, this place is for you if you want to completely get relaxation! Definitely recommend!

100% relaxation

5/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

My wife and I booked this hotel on a recommendation from a friend. If you want to have a totally relaxing holiday along with great food and drink then this is the place for you. Upon arrival check in was easy and a welcome cold towel with a rum punch was nice after a long flight. A short buggy tour/ journey to our room where everything was explained thoroughly. We had a deluxe beachfront which was spacious and well equipped. We ate at all three main restaurants and the grill. The only meal we didn't enjoy was the BBQ evening. Being honest with the quality of the food in the sea grape and Gauguin were as good as it was in ismays but only ismays had a supplement yes you get a little more but not enough extra quality to warrant the supplement. The staff were in the whole excellent and very attentive however there were two guys that excelled and they were Michael (Gauguin restaurant) and Timothy they made you feel extra special and would take the time to remember our names and ask how we were enjoying the holiday and what we had done that day, they always asked if there was anything else they could do for us, these guys were the icing on the cake. I would recommend this hotel if you enjoy or need to relax and be spoilt rotten. We even got to witness an 8ft X 5ft leatherback turtle laying her eggs, shame we weren't there for any of the hatchings hopefully next time as we will definitely be back (and we don't ever go back to the same hotel) thanks again Galley Bay for a wonderful holiday.

Beautiful tranquil resort

5/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Spent a wonderful 5 days at Galley Bay. We were particularly impressed with the eco-friendly amenities including easy access to water to drink. The hotel is in a beautiful location with its own beach. Our room was huge with a deck right at the beach. Nothing better than sleeping with just the screen door closed and hearing the crashing waves so close by. The food was plentiful and quite good. All of the staff is incredibly nice and really goes out their way to make sure that you are enjoying yourself. In particular, thanks to David at the Sea Grape restaurant for finding local pineapple for us to try and Cedric Henry, the resident manager, for providing us access to a phone to handle a problem when American Airlines cancelled our flight. All in all, would highly recommend this resort.

First all inclusive didn't dissapoint

5/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

The resort was everything we hoped for and more! We spent our 10 year anniversary at Galley Bay and it was absolutely incredible. This was our first all inclusive experience and we were not disappointed. The drinks at the teepee bar were always perfect and we really loved the full service restaurants. I will say the dinner portions were a tad small, especially since I typically eat small meals for breakfast and lunch and go all in for dinner but all of the food was good. Every staff member we encountered went above and beyond to make us feel at home or maybe I should say not at home since many times we were reminded that we were on vacation and should never worry about a thing. The older gentleman at The Gauguin was a highlight of our trip. He made our anniversary dinner so special and made every meal there memorable.
Shiloh at watersports was also great and we had an amazing time sailing with him.
We snorkeled every day right outside of our room and had green flags on the beach the entire time. The banana slide is a must have!
I wouldn't hesitate to go back and hope we can plan another trip soon!!

Amazing, Relaxing Vacation

5/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

My wife and I just spent an AMAZING week at Galley Bay. This is our second annual trip to Antigua and we are looking forward to planning a return. From the moment when our taxi dropped us off at the gate until the time we left, the staff made us feel completely at home. EVERYONE was so nice and accommodating. The rooms were excellent and were very large. The bathroom was HUGE with a double shower (Key when you and your spouse have different "getting ready speeds"). The food was outstanding with lots of local flavors. Try the spa for a great massage! I can't say enough about our Galley Bay experience. Two thumbs WAY up!

Had a good time. Good resort

4/5 - June, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Galley bay is a nice resort to stay at. Overall was a good stay. Mostly older adults but some younger couples too.

Food: 4/5. Good but could use more variety. Three restaurants but really only two that are included. We tried to go to Ismay one night but we didn’t know the dress code of long pants also applied during the summer months for men so we didn’t eat there. We ate mostly at Seagrape and especially enjoyed the lamb. Gaughin was nice but I think the view is better for lunch since it’s dark for dinner.

Alcohol: 5/5. The drinks were really good. The rum shack tasting was good too. Would not buy the alcohol in the gift shop though. We bought the English harbor 10 for $57 in the gift shop and it wasn’t only $40 for the same bottle at the airport.

Staff: Everyone was friendly and nice. Some more than others but no one was rude and everyone willing to help. Service varied though. Our first three nights, we never got turndown service and was confused when they started doing it our last couple of nights there. There is a no tipping policy but we did tip for certain things like housekeeping, the driver, and the guy that took us out on the sailboat.

Excursions:
Shirley Heights Lookout: 1/5. Did not enjoy this at all. For $30/person, it wasn’t worth it. It’s small and there was no sunset view when we got there. Granted there is a Sahara dust effect so maybe during other times it would have been a beautiful view but we didn’t see anything. If you go, bring tennis shoes so you can hike the trail to the marina. It’s only a 1/2 mile. Didn’t try the food there. Looked overprice. Would eat either before or after. There are not many vendors there either. The band was okay.

Captain Sean working beats boat tour: We did the sunset cruise. It was okay but wouldn’t do it again. Booked his tour before the daily orientation so couldn’t cancel but if I could do it over, would rather gone on the larger catamarans. Also, even though management allows him to sell his tour onsite, he technically is a vendor. Meaning you book though him and not through he hotel for the excursions so if something happens they aren’t responsible for it. He takes out a max of 4 couples halfway around the island. Boat is small so you can’t really move around. He lets you snorkel and then cooks a dinner. The chicken dinner he cooked was great. But the reason I would do it again is because he overcharged us. He said it would be $125/person so that would be $250/couple but he charged us $260. He said he would charge $60 as a down payment before the tour then $190 after the tour. But he does charging in EC and not US dollar. It’s an exchange rate of 2.7. $190 is supposed to be 513 EC but he charged us 538, which is $200. I didn’t break out the calculator but I should have because I didn’t catch it until I got home and saw my credit card bill. It’s only $10 but it’s still shady. So make sure you check his math before you let him swipe your card. Also there are other tours for the same price that allows you get to go around the entire island instead of just halfway.

268 Dune buggies: There was a drought when we went so it was really dusty and not much greenery at all. It’s a go cart and they give you a bottle of water. The ride was okay. The cart stops sometimes but it didn’t take long to restart. Wish they provided googles because the dust was really hard to see through with just sunglasses on. They give you an mask which was really helpful. The beach they dropped you off at is beautiful. Pristine, secluded and clear water. Lovely beach that really was the highlight of the trip but not sure that is worth the $135/person.

Snorkeling: not an excursion but just wanted to mention that it’s free and gear are in the room. definitely do it. We saw crabs, stingrays, fishes, squid. More than we thought just within 10 feet from the beach.

Overall: quiet, relaxing vacation. Nice resort.

Amazing resort

This was our first time at galley bay. Because we were transferring from another hotel on the island we arrived at night. In my opinion this is the idea time. Having checked into reception you are taken across a lake by a road with what is best described as landing lights. The effect was magical. Our room was a deluxe beachfront, sea and sand on your doorstep. It is a elegant hotel with very good food. The staff are always helpful, give or take the odd one. Lovely turquoise sea greets you at breakfast every morning.
Hi light of our trip was a leatherback turtle coming onto the beach one night to lay her eggs. I hadn't realised they were so big! If I had a bucket list that one would definitely be on it. Overall a amazing time in a graceful resort.

Time to chill, relax and breath

Galley Bay Resort and Spa has been our home for the last 10 days and sorry to leave so soon !! We have had the best time ever. Everyone and mean everyone working at the Resort from management to gardeners have been absolutely been so welcoming, friendly, always putting themselves out for you. Smiles always welcoming you no matter the time of day. An adult only resort highly recommended peaceful and relaxing for those looking at a 5* plus all inclusive with a great choice of high quality accommodations varying from beach cottage to beach villa to garden cottage with private plunge pool some with a view of the resort lac with an abundance of wild birds, 3 very good restaurants and a ‘chilled beach snack hut’ serving high quality finger food. Watersport centre although small has plenty to keep you entertained during your stay from 2 Hobby cats with free lessons, to paddle boards, kayak, jet sky, windsurfing to the best snorkelling with sight of a huge variety of fish every time at any time of the day. A proper playground for keen snorkelers. A very well equipped gym, coffee shop serving coffees, cool drinks, patisseries and finger sandwiches all day long, rum shack opened for stating ! A spa, tennis court, the resort shop, bicycles for a lovely cycle around the resort ground... and a sailing boat with its own Captain ‘Sean’ and one man crew (included in price of your either full day or half day trip, Antiguan lunch and a selection of soft drinks to rum punch) offering great trips around the island, to the reef for snorkelling with equipment provided. These trips take 6 to 8 persons however you may also charter the sailing boat to yourselves for the day at a cost too. Our half day trip was fantastic and snorkelling on the reef was just breathtaking. Lunch was delicious and the company was great. Captain Sean is very knowledgeable of the island and a great ‘skipper’. We are already looking forward to our next visit in the not so long future.
