We eventually arrived at the Thalassa at 11.50 pm on Saturday night, as we had been delayed at MCR airport sat on a Thomas Cook plane for an hour and a half prior to take off !!!, this is obviously NOT the hotels fault. This was our first ever visit to Cyprus. On arrival at reception a very nice man gave us our wrist bands and an envelope and room key, no fuss over passports etc. We managed to get a few drinks in prior to the bar closing at midnight. On arrival to the room, 626 on the Sunset side we were greeted with a plate full of food, salad and two large bread baguettes with ham & cheese, two bottles of water....great touch.
Yes, there are delivery vehicles arriving early in the morning, ear plugs are the answer.
The view from our room was exceptional, we did overlook the tennis court, but this was not an issue, the sun sets made up for this.
I would like to list the Best staff we have ever come across on holidays.
The Blue bar staff: Nadia, what a bright, switched on young lady, we predict that Nadia will be a manager of her own hotel in 5 to 10 years time, excellent customer care.
Anthi, once again, so helpful and her smile was great to see everyday ( kept an eye on my beer intake LOL ). Leonis, great young man, as with all these staff, he came around the pool every day with bottles of water, then regularly asking what drinks you would like. Young Denis, he was my wife's favorite,as she mothered him..all four of these staff worked so hard, if this could only be said about the bar manager, not sure of his name, possibly George, what an ignorant, lazy manager. He spent most of his time sat talking to local people whilst the rest were ran of their feet. I would not employ this guy, a waste of wages in my opinion.
Yes, there are a few minor issues with the hotels decor, the carpets in the corridors and the pool steps and mosaic tiles need attention, this however does NOT reflect on the quality and service this Hotel provides and was not a problem to us.
The management are aware of these and plan to re-vamp in the closed season.
The pool area was run really well by Cosmin, keeping all in order, checking the water quality on a regular basis through out the day, always chatty.
The food in the main dinning room was at times exceptional, such a wide choice of food, from breakfast to the evening meal, if you do not come back a few pounds heavier, the you have not tried everything. The breakfast were amazing, the porridge and scrambled eggs....superb.
We did get the impression the most staff in there did appear to be Nationality biased, but we still had great service.
So, Terry P , I would suggest that in future you may be better booking in to a hotel that serves Burger & Chips every day and has a Karaoke bar that suits your taste better !
We used the a la Carte restaurant once, but this was not to our taste, the food is so good in the main dining room anyway.
During the second week there, my wife suffered an allergic reaction to something and her eye brows and upper cheeks swelled, what can I say about the hotel staff, so helpful and concerned, even offering to get a taxi to take us the the Medical Clinic, every day the checked on her and even the main manager came over, it cleared up with anti-histamines in two days.
We did not use the Beach bar, but there is a lift at the rear of the A la Carte restaurant to take you up and down to this and the beach.
The beach is great and very sandy in places. There are tourist boats that arrive throughout the day, but as previously reported there is No loud constant music, the manager has contacted the local council over this. However there is slight noise from the very big speed boat used by the " Ocean Flyer " tourist boat, but they are only there for an hour.
We had just the basic all inclusive package, blue band, but in my opinion this was more than adequate, you can up grade for 14e each a day, this does get you Branded drinks, snacks anytime and a mini bar replacement, but if you have not had enough to eat and drink from 7 am til midnight, then there is something wrong !
This has to be mentioned, House Keeping staff, whatever they get payed it is NOT enough, what a tremendous job they do, every day, all day cleaning, the rooms are exceptionally cleaned, towels and bedding changed every day if you require, my hat goes off to these dedicated people, who take pride in their work, I have never seen a lady brush nearly a full sized tennis court everyday. Thanks to the supervisor, Angela..who sorted an very small repair issue in our room, done within 10 mins..
Summing up, we had the best holiday ever provided by Mr Lefteris Lazarou the manager and 99% of his staff.
IF and it is a Big if, you have an issue with anything at this hotel, go to the front desk, they will bend over backwards to sort any problems you may have.
WELL DONE THALASSA....
It is a pity that Thomas Cook did not play their part in the flight out and also the horrendous, unorganized pantomime at the airport for the flight back, that is another story.
Many Thanks again, we will return, ( on another airline we think )
