Hotel Reviews

Lovely hotel, fabulous staff and food.

5/5 - October, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Fantastic 5* beachfront adults only hotel.
All the staff are wonderful, they can't do enough for you. Everywhere is clean.
Beds are really comfy and king size.
We stayed half board as we wanted to go exploring during the day, but i understand that all inclusive guests can request a packed lunch, but after a huge breakfast we rarely needed any lunch.
We had a lovely welcome with drink and snack while we completed the paperwork.
Water was provided every day and sometimes brought around when we were at the beach.
The food was lovely. I'm vegetarian and found plenty to eat and there was a gluten free table also. My meat loving husband loved the tender meat at dinner and mounds of bacon for breakfast.
We had all our meals in the buffet restaurant, except for one night at their Greek restaurant which was wonderful (one free visit per stay), other visits 20% discount. Well worth going.
Drinks, we had to pay for all being half board except for coffee with breakfast. You can upgrade to a drinks package for €30 per person per day. The drinks are a little pricey e.g.. €6 for a glass of red wine, and the cocktails €8 I think, and didn't taste like premium spirits, we weren't impressed with the quality, which is only one of two very minor criticisms I have of the hotel. The second was that the indoor and outdoor pools could with being a couple of degrees warmer.

Rooms, bath with shower over, super king size bed, fridge with a complimentary bottle of wine, safe, hairdryer, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. Cleaned every day with clean towels and sheets unless you say not to change for environmental reasons.

Cars can be hired easily from the rep in the foyer. Tip- pay by cash or there's a 6% charge on credit cards (car hire company only, the hotel doesn't charge for paying with credit cards.)

Buses run frequently to Chania at €1.20 per ticket from the shop opposite. No expiry date, so can purchase a few.

Where to visit, Chania Botanic Gardens is beautiful, a tropical oasis in the mountains, car or taxi needed to get there. Wear trainers as it's min 1.5 hr slow walk when you stop to look at the plants and animals. €6 each with a bottle of water. 20mins drive.
Chania town, the western area is the lovely old town and the Venetian harbour's lovely. 15 mins drive.
Rhythymnon is about an hours drive away and another lovely old town, with a huge fort if you have time.

Lake Kournos is about 45 mins away near Rhythymnon and worth a visit, beach with pedalos to hire.

The sea at Kalliston is a little wavy as it's breezy, so there are beaches to the west a bit more sheltered (1.5 hrs SW to Elafonisi through mountains is beautiful) others 30- 45 mins. But its a shock coming across children when you leave the quiet oasis of the hotel!!

We've had a lovely 10 day holiday here and would certainly come back. Thank you so much Kalliston staff for looking after us.

Outstanding high standards

5/5 - October, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

From the moment we stepped into this hotel, it was apparent that the staff would go out of their way to look after you. Friendly, always smiling, bending over backwards to please.

Ours was a relatively late booking so knew beforehand that we were getting a standard double room facing road. Room was modern although rather compact but with all facilities ie bath/shower, tea/coffee making, full toiletries. Road quite noisy.

Hotel set on its own stretch of good sandy beach with comfortable loungers and thatch parasols. Beach/pool bars right there.

Main buffet restaurant with 2 additional a la cartes, Italian and Greek, all providing good choice of excellent food. Especially good for vegetarians (who always have a hard time with little choice of food).

Lounge packed in evenings with variable music every night - most rather amateurish though.

Bus stop conveniently outside hotel for Chania, although we found Chania disappointing but wonderful walks along beach, past small church where there are interesting sandy coves leading further into lovely wooded walks.

The thing which especially makes this hotel stand out is the personal service and lengths the staff go to to please with lots of thoughtful little details and actions. In all my travels, don't think I have met such friendly and helpful staff. Well done Kalliston.

Exceptional care and service by staff

5/5 - October, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

I have been fortunate enough to stay at 4 & 5 star hotels in many European countries, the Caribbean, Africa and the Far East. I am comparing this hotel on an international scale from my experience.
This hotel was excellent in all key aspects, and exceptional in some.
Firstly all the facilities you would expect of a 5 star hotel were present and to an excellent standard. Here I am thinking of competent, helpful and friendly front desk staff, decent hotel ( and grounds) wide WiFi, quality dining, clean and very comfortable rooms, ample bars and seating/lounging areas , plenty of beach loungers.

However what I want to concentrate on in this review are the aspects which I found exceptional and mark this hotel experience out from the crowd. This starts with the service and attitude from all the staff. No matter who you interacted with they were as helpfull and keen as you could wish for. The management team is very "hands on" and constantly around to ensure perfection ensues ! The hotel manager was personally walking around all the public areas and really engaging with the guests. This would be from breakfast to evening dining. As an illustration to this, we were picked up for the return coach trip to the airport at 9.00 pm, and the manager together with other staff individually thanked and talked to everybody as they boarded the coach. This in a 300 room hotel !
We opted for all inclusive and there was never any sense of skimping on anything. - for example wide variety of drinks, plenty of serving staff so no waiting, snacks brought down to the beach, bottles of wine for lunch and dinner, tables spaciously set out , wide choice of food at the buffet, water bottles ditributed on the beach.
Our only "even better if.." comment was the evening entertainment. This was set out in an annexe to the central lounge area - and so not very viewable to many of the seated guests. The singing and dancing acts were variable in professionalism and skill. Decent PA and lighting systems would have helped a lot.

So in summary, this hotel sets itself very high standards, has amazingly motivated and engaging staff, and knows what is required to provide a lovely holiday experience. I thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Simply the best

What can I say about this amazing hotel that had not already been said? The staff are amazing- nothing is too much trouble. The food is excellent with a huge choice.
Set on a beautiful stretch of beach, with excellent bar service, you don't need to get off the sun bed if you don't want to (and there are plenty of them).
Tasteful entertainment, beach parties ( not overly loud) and the gala dinner were fun, but easy to avoid if you just want peace and quiet. Little touches like lavender pouches on your pillow, chocolates left in the room at night, floweres in the room - I could go on and on.
When the staff come out to wave you off, you really do feel like you are leaving friends - no wonder that over 35% of guests return - I know we will.

Dream Location for Relaxing 25th Wedding Anniversary Celebration

5/5 - October, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

My wife and I just spent a week at this amazing resort in Crete to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and it was a perfect choice. The facility itself is beautiful, well appointed, and spacious (never once had a problem getting a lounge chair at either the beach or pool, one of my pet peeves while at these resorts), the food is absolutely delicious at every venue, including the buffet (although I wasn't a fan of having to wear pants there for dinner), and the beach and setting were the best we encountered in our travels around Greece. However, I have to say, the absolute best feature of this resort is the staff. They were so sincerely friendly, helpful, and good at their jobs...the best I have ever experienced. Every single staff member we encountered, from the hotel manager to the lady cleaning our room, were just fantastic to deal with (I do have to single out Chrisoula at the Culinarium, and Maria at the beach bar as two of our favourites). The staff went above and beyond to make this trip enjoyable from the moment we checked in until the moment we left.

I would also recommend going with the all inclusive option. If you enjoy drinking cocktails during the day it will pay for itself as the drinks are not cheap (Don't drink the Raki! :)). As well, as mentioned, all of the food is delicious and they have several great dining options on site that are super convenient after a day on the beach! Lots of opportunities to eat in the open air with a view of the sea.

We have been to many 5 star all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and this resort exceeded our expectations (different atmosphere than the Caribbean but equally as good). I am told that they have a high rate of annual return visits (approximately 34%) and I can see why. It is a long way from Canada but well worth the trip. We definitely intend to return to spend more time in Crete and won't hesitate to book this resort again.

Room Tip: Deluxe sea view room. We found the 600 series of rooms to have a great sea view and were in a quiet...

Honeymoon dreams are made of

5/5 - October, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

My wife and I spent 7 glorious days here for our honeymoon.
Never having stayed in a 5 star before I didn't know what to expect.
From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty, nothing was too much for the staff to accommodate. Food was fantastic with lots of choice on offer. Room was beautiful and the hotel added some lovely touches to make our honeymoon special.
I was dubious of the location before we travelled, purely down to the recent economic issues surrounding Greece. I shouldn't of wasted the thought, every person we interacted with, wether shop worker or restauranter were amazingly friendly. The island is beautiful and plenty to do. We rented a car and drove to elounda and got a boat to spinilonga which was a great adventure. The roads are a little daunting as cretens like to drive by the edge of their seats. Best holiday I have ever had, would definitely return to kaliston and would recommend both the hotel and crete as a location.

First Crete Experience

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

The abundance of 5 star reviews speaks for itself. Unfortunately we only stayed for 10 days but are planning a two week stay next year. Whilst on this occasion we only managed a trip into Chania, a must do, we would explore a little more of the island next time.

A couple of tips, we went half board and whilst we do not eat at lunchtimes we certainly did not hold back on alcoholic drinks but our bar bill including a bottle of wine every night totalled €261. Bottled water is provided free in abundance so whether or not all inclusive is a worthwhile option really is worth considering.

The other tip is that if you are not overly mobile it is worth requesting a room with a walk in shower as those rooms with a bath and overhead shower can be a little awkward to clamber into.

An excellent adults only hotel and the staff without exception are probably the most friendly and attentive we have experienced over the course of many year's of holidaying.

A very pleasant surprise

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We have just returned from this excellent hotel. Having travelled all over the world and stayed in some of the best hotels, we were very surprised by the outstanding quality of this beachside hotel. We had a pool view room which gave an excellent view of the sea and beach as well. The room was spacious with a huge amount of storage space. We stayed half board which suited us very well. The food in the main restaurant was first class with plenty of choice every morning and evening. We could not find anything wrong with the hotel at all but the outstanding feature was the service we received from the staff in every department. They were constantly helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. A fantastic hotel and a first class holiday.

Just about perfect!

This is a superb hotel. From walking through the door there was a member of staff to show you to a table. Drinks, a pastry and a flannel to cool down were all then provided. No waiting at reception to check in.... Forms were brought to our table and when completed a member of staff escorted us to our room. The luggage appeared minutes later. Rooms are large and very clean. There is a fridge and coffee making facilities. Plenty of drawers and storage space also. The bathroom is also a good size with lovely soft towels. There is plenty of space outside with pools and a ramp to the beach. In theory there should be plenty of sunbeds to go round but couples were taking four, two in the sun and two in the shade. There were also many beds with towels on in the morning and no sign of anyone till late afternoon. Selfish people spoil it for others. The food is amazing. Buffet style-well presented and well cooked. Our only niggle was an early morning start for a trip. The early morning call at 5-30am did not happen. Luckily we were up. I have no problem with just cereal, cheese and ham for breakfast but I do expect a coffee or at least water hot enough to make a cup of tea. The member of staff on duty was sullen to say the least and it was obvious we were a nuisance to expect breakfast at that time! Such a contrast to every one else who were so friendly and helpful. This is a very well run hotel and the management care about the comfort of guests. I do hope to return one day.

Amazing hotel

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Very good hotel. Spacious areas outside and swimming pools preventing it to be overcrowded.
There was animation every night (live music, etc) and a nice beach party in one of the nights.

We appreciated very much that there were free bottles of water delivered by the staff in the beach and swimming pools.
The staff was incredibly helpful all the time, including the hotel manager.

Good food with enough variety. The hotel made me feel in Greece every single day, due to the Greek food in the buffet and the Greek-style restaurant where we had lunch every day!
However, we consider the Italian thematic restaurant quite disappointing. The food served was not at the same level of quality as the rest of the hotel and the dishes themselves didn't quite match the typical Italian dishes.

We were offered a 15min massage in the Spa and we enoyed it very much.
Hotel has gym and an indoor pool.

We highly recommend this hotel!

NICE HOTEL

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We have spent the last 6 years visiting Hotel Kalliston and we are generally very happy. But we find it iritating that there is a definite dress code, to use the hotel's facelities. We understand that you do not allow swimwear at the restaurants, but we do not understand why it is a requirement that men wear long pants. You allow men with long nails in open sandals, but there is no access for men in nice city shorts, socks and nice shoes. We are on vacation and I think it's wrong to dictate a dress code to use the hotel's main restaurant. You are a typical holiday hotel, it does not have to be so formal. That is why more of your guests choose to eat at other restaurants in the city, and that is why we do not order all inclusive. It's really sad because we love much of your hotel.

Superb Hotel

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Seriously what can I say, a true 5 star Hotel with 5 star staff and superb food.
Half board is breakfast and dinner you can exchange dinner for lunch, you can also book all Inclusive before you go or upgrade when you get there, you are offered the chance to buy a drinks package for 30euros per person per day, this may sound expensive but I kept track of what we drank and it meant we just saved under half of what we would have paid without it.
Price examples are Bottle of wine 25-27euros, G&T 7.50 soft drinks 3.50.
The position of the Hotel is right on the beach, the Hotels section is clearly defined and they even have their own Life Guard complete with rescue boat.
I could wax lyrical about the food safe to say it is very, very good.
The Hotel is low rise, 4 floors in all. If you can book a Sea View room, now that's a view to write home about. Non s/v rooms face the main road with some running down the side of the Hotel over looking other buildings, not the best outlook.
As for the staff what a team of friendly, funny, charming individuals, they treat you like you have known them all your life.
It's a 2euro bus ride (one way) into Chania, with there been 4 of us it made sense to get a Taxi, which believe it or not worked out the same price 8 euros .
Safe to say we will be returning, what I would say to you is Book It, you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic hotel

Exceptional, Exceptional, Exceptional

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Just returned today from a week at this fabulous hotel to celebrate my 60th birthday. My best birthday treat ever contributed to by the staff at this hotel who are truly exceptional. Yes the hotel is fabulous and the location stunning but it is the staff who make this hotel stand out in every way. I felt like we had been welcomed into a large and loving family and nothing at all was too much trouble.

The little touches are things that make this hotel stand out above others. The constant supply of iced water, iced lemon flannels to refresh you on the beach or a spritz of perfume followed by a slice of water melon. The list is endless and the surprises for my birthday - a cake in the room, bottle of bubbly, followed by another bottle of bubbly the next day with a certificate for dancing. Everything is signed personally by Dimitris the Manager and he and his brilliant management team are absolutely everywhere checking to see if you are enjoying your food and chatting to guests. They have a very high presence and seem to get to know all their guests personally. If you had a complaint you would not need to search to find someone but I challenge you to find something to complain about! The food is excellent as are the individual restaurants and there is an extremely comprehensive list of cocktails all included in the all inclusive. I can also recommend the coffee bar and its extensive selections.

The beach is beautifully sandy and the waters crystal clear. We like snorkelling and enjoyed walking over to the side of the bay where there are some rocks which host many different types of colourful fish.

The hotel puts on a gala dinner with champagne and fireworks which is one of the many entertainments laid on. Margarita Cox sang that evening and she was brilliant, extremely professional. The theme for this evening is black and white if you wish to wear those colours. Every evening is an occasion and it is nice to go to a lovely place where people make the effort at night to be smart and there are linen napkins etc. On the evening of my birthday there was the beach party and we danced on the sand next to a bonfire and again there were fireworks. There is something to do every evening and lots of activities in the day if you so wish including cocktail making and cookery demonstrations.

The staff are all so wonderful but special mention must go to Aleksandra who made my dreams happen, Vasilia whose smile lights up the whole dining room and Maria in the spa who is wonderful at putting you at your ease. Thanks also to Pui for the amazing massage and exfoliation with lavender and olive oil. Our room (505) was kept spotless by our lovely smiling cleaner who gave me lots of hugs and smiles. There is no-one on the staff who does not give 100% and it was heart warming to see how they all got on well together.

If you are thinking of booking this hotel do it as you will never regret it. Go all inclusive as it is truly all inclusive and well worth it.

The most amazing hotel

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

It’s the first review I’ve written - I feel the Kalliston deserves it! Everything has been perfection. The staff are amazing - Dimitris and team are always there when you need something, but not overwhelming. The food is great - I highly recommend the Asian restaurant. There are enough sun beds for everyone - they also enforce the rule of not leaving your towel on the beds unattended for over an hour meaning it’s fair for all in the morning after breakfast. The spa is amazing - Zoe gave me a deep tissue massage and a facial and was fantastic at both. It’s right on the beach front too, meaning you can take a dip in the lovely warm sea and be back by the pool in no time. The little touches, such as early evening visits to your room to leave little gifts and ask if you need anything are what set this hotel apart from anywhere I’ve been before. Absolutely will be coming again next year.
