The Beauty of the beaches makes it difficult to resist long hours of sunbathing. There are sandy or pebbled beaches, quiet or more crowded ones with restaurants, cafés and tavernas. Particularly impressive beaches will be Elafonisi, Balos Lagoon, Gramvousa, Falasarna, Paleochora and some more. With developed tourist areas and ideal climate Crete is understandably a most popular adults-only holiday in Greece destination.
When To Go
For an escape from colder climates, April to mid-October is a good choice. The high season in Crete is between June and August when the average temperature is near 26°C. The temperatures are highest in July and August. It is a period when all the services are running on maximum schedules. September brings with it cooler than normal days, but the water temperature is perfect and the flowers are still blooming. Gradually more people are venturing to Crete in winter when the weather is more variable and there is a chance to spend time in museums when it seems like the island is all yours.
