Excellent small hotel, centrally located, amazing terrace

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

This is a wonderful small hotel. Beautiful design in an old bakery, using the original features cleverly. Staff friendly and helpful (gave us the best restaurant recommendation). The terrace is the most remarkable thing. Extraordinary views across the Tagus and the City. Small pool in middle of bar area. Comfortable sitting areas dispersed across three levels. Lovely drinks and food. The rooms are small but well designed so you (just about) don’t find it constraining. Hotel is very central in Alfama district but at bottom of a really quiet cup de sac so extremely quiet. Great breakfast too. So all in all excellent. Strongly recommend.

Excellent !!!

Everything about this hotel was excellent. The location in cozy downtown, the style of the rooms, the smiling staff members,…. stunning views of the old town & port from the terrace. Simply loved it all and I am definitely coming back!

Very relaxed experience - Fabulous roof terrace views

4/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Room clean and comfortable. Actually quite small but a very clever use of space in the design makes the most of every inch. Very relaxed breakfast experience. Nice that you can take coffee and orange juice and in fact anything you wanted back to your room as it’s quite a small hotel so it felt like walking from your own kitchen back to your bedroom with a coffee... the pool is very sweet and we used it but it is really very small and shallow (it was more a pool for Standing in and cooling off than really swimming - my knees hit the floor when breast-stroking) but the view is so awesome you can forgive it! Lots of nice sofas on the terrace you could chill out on, friendly staff and lots of restaurants etc within an easy walk. Taxis very reasonable from the hotel so you travel to most places cheaply if you didn’t want to walk in any case. Free walking tour was enjoyable. I’d go back...

Great location and fab hotel

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We booked without a lot of preparation and were pleasantly surprised by this place. At the end of a private drive you find a chic and sophisticated boutique hotel. Surprisingly it also has a pool, and killer views.

Breakfast was included and is very good. They have a neighborhood walking tour in the mornings (highly recommend) which will give you context to the hotel, neighborhood, city and country.

Staff is great, efficient and very helpful. Oasis in a bustling city!

wonderful service, amazing roof terrace!

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

This beautiful hotel did not disappoint. Service was calm and very friendly, the roof terrace was splendid, especially from late afternoon onwards when the sun moved away. Views over the city and the river. You can watch the cruise ships with all the cruisers disembarking, like tiny ants! The location is excellent, right in the heart of historic Alfama - free walking tour highly recommended. The room was small, but perfectly tasteful and well set up. Strange canary yellow toilet paper. Not sure what that was all about. And the glassed off bathroom slightly dangerous in terms of bumping into clear panels, but maybe that's just me... Highly recommended (:

Perfect hotel to visit Lisbon

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Stayed for a few days as part of a longer trip to Portugal. Family of four, with two college age children, stayed in two terrace rooms overlooking the pool and lounge bar. Even before arriving the service was excellent, with the hotel helpful in providing directions, information and booking a free walking tour around Alfama. On arrival the rental car was taken care of by the hotel, our rooms were ready, and the check in painless. Service was discrete but always helpful, and the nightly restaurant recommendations and reservations were great. The location was perfect, the rooms comfortable (not massive, but big enough and very nicely furnished) and service couldn’t be faulted. If we stay in Lisbon again, it will be here.

Excellent boutique hotel in Alfama

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We had a brief two night stay at the Memmo Alfama, taking advantage of the free stopover (on the way from central Europe to US) offered by TAP Airlines. Hotel was just what we were looking for and the Alfama neighborhood and sights are not to be missed. The room was typical boutique hotel -- just large enough, well laid out, thoroughly modern. If you want a 350 square foot room go to a Hilton. Very hip, youthful vibe, but we old folks did not seem out of place. We had a "terrace room" with a fantastic view. Service was professional and friendly from front desk to restaurant staff. Included breakfast was top notch. Two tips: definitely take advantage of the free walking tour, our guide Catarina was charming and knowledgeable; and do not rent a car and drive to Alfama, it is pure mayhem in the streets!

A beautiful hotel in a gorgeous part of the city

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

This was my first trip to Lisbon and I picked to stay in Alfama based on what I had read about it and I was not disappointed. The alfama region is dripping with charm and culture and I'd a picturesque village within a city.

The hotel is an absolute gem. We were greeted by extremely friendly, helpful and polite staff who have us a tour of the hotel and showed us to our room. They also have us some recommendations for dinner and booked us a table!

We went on the walking tour offered by the hotel which was really very very good. He really knew his history and was good fun to chat to; it was a great way to check out Alfama.

Breakfast was delicious! A huge selection of meats, fish, breads and pastries as well as cereals, yogurts and cheeses. On top of this you could order freshly cooked eggs, ommlettes, pancakes and others from a menu, all of which were delicious! The coffee was very good too.

The rooms are great. Comfortable beds, plenty of space and really well kitted out.

The best boutique hotel in Alfama and possibly the whole of Lisbon by far

5/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

memmo Alfama Hotel - what a gem, hidden down a quiet cul-de-sac. The staff are amazing, the rooms are simple but have everything you need. Breakfast, from
7-11 am !!. covers for everyone's taste. Quiet places to read. But I have left the best to last, the sun terraces on about four different levels where you can have breakfast, meals drinks and even take a dip in their own little pool. But that is not all - the View over the old part of Alfama and the estuary is just amazing.

Wonderful hotel with magical views

5/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We stayed 6 nights at the Memmo Alfama. The staff were very helpful and genuinely friendly. Laid back vibe puts your in great holiday mood. The views from the rooftop bar are magnificent! Great breakfast food which can be eaten on the rooftop. Excellent location in old district and close to tram stop. Be aware if driving, the streets in old district are tiny and hilly. Free walking tour guide was very informative. Our first time in Portugal made very special by this lovely boutique hotel.

Nice Hotel with Great View

4/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in early July 2018 on our honeymoon. We stayed for 3 nights and spent a fair amount of time in the hotel. The hotel is very nice and deserving of its star rating. The hotel’s personnel are very accommodating and friendly. We recommend spending an evening on the patio and enjoying the lovely view of Alfama and the river with some nice wine and snacks from the bar/kitchen. The bar and kitchen have a great selection of Portuguese wines and authentic Portuguese foods that are all worth trying! The rooms are luxurious and have everything you need. We had a room on the 1st floor but we wished we sprung for a room with a patio or a better view. The location is perfect if you want to explore Alfama and is close to a convenience store, shops, some cafes, and walking distance to Baxia.
Our only complaint with the hotel was that our room was on the 1st floor near the breakfast area/lobby and it was quite noisy in the morning so much so that my wife had trouble sleeping through the morning. We asked the management to see if another room was available and they said they had a room available on the 3rd floor for later that day to move in to. When we came back in the afternoon expecting to switch rooms they told us that the room was not ready, and a room would not be ready until the next day. At that point we decided it wasn’t worth moving rooms and were disappointed in the management for not following through. This occurred at the end of our trip, so this was quite annoying as we were looking forward to getting some more rest. Overall, a solid higher end hotel for Alfama and we would recommend for the price point. 4.5 stars!

Great boutique hotel with amazing views!

5/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We stayed at the Memmo Alfama for 3 nights for our first visit to Lisbon. It is a lovely modern boutique hotel in a great location. We spent a lot of time wandering the streets of Alfama which was quite enjoyable. We also walked some of the other neighbourhoods of Lisbon, but Alfama was our favourite. There are some great spots to walk to for amazing views of the city and the castle.

We found the service at the hotel to be exceptional! They were all very friendly, helpful, and attentive, from the front desk to the breakfast area, to the rooftop terrace.

The breakfast was great! They had a menu where you could order eggs, crepes, bacon, etc. They also had a buffet of pastries, fresh fruit, and yogurt, and self serve coffee, so you never had to wait for coffee.

The rooftop terrace has amazing views of the city and water. Just beautiful! So very relaxing to sit there with some tapas and drinks and enjoy the view! There were always lots of seats available, and a small pool to cool off in. Our only complaint was we found the prices for both food and drinks on the terrace to be overpriced for the area. If the prices were more reasonable, we would have spent more time there. However, we did thoroughly enjoy the time we spent there.

We also went on the free Alfama area tour provided by the hotel (every morning at 10:00am), and really enjoyed it. The tour guide really knows the area well. The only down side was that he was 20-30 minutes late for the tour.

Overall, I highly recommend this hotel and I would stay here again if I were to come back to Lisbon.

Beautiful views and fun location!

4/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We stayed at this hotel for the two nights we're in Lisbon. What a great find! It is located a little off the main street. The hotel is modern with a cozy feel. We booked a superior room and it truly was! We had great water views and it was a corner room with plenty of windows. The only part that was less enjoyable, was our room was on the second floor and overlooked directly onto the terrace area but not really a big issue. The room itself was modern and large with robes and slippers provided. There is also a safe in the room. The down side is there are two single beds pushed together with separate blankets - not a fan! Actually we never had this before and would not want this again.

The terrace was a great place to relax and have something to eat and enjoy the sights. We were fortunate enough to be there during a month when there were festivals. We could hear the lively music and another acrobatic show was going on directly in front of the terrace at the water - what a treat with great music playing as well!

The breakfast was delicious with plenty of options and made to order. Champagne was also self serve - I love mimosa so this was great for me!

There were plenty of shops and restaurants located within walking distance of the hotel. it could be challenging for folks with mobility issues, given it is directly on the upper slope of a hill. There are trams that go by frequently, if you want to get a pass.

Lovely Alfama Hotel

4/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

My fiancé and I stayed in this lovely Alfama hotel tucked away in a quiet cul de sac. You are only minutes away from the main street and Lisbon Cathedral. The staffs are great, more than helpful with arranging transport for us and making recommendations for restaurants. The room is bright and airy. Breakfast was good with a good choice of bread, pastry. The only downside is kettle is not provided in the room and the service can be a bit slow in the bar.

Amazing views and design

5/5 - June, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

- This hotel is right in the middle of Alfama, which, after three days in Lisbon, turned out to be the best neighborhood to explore authentic Lisbon. The terrace of the hotel is amazing: great views (better than many of the viewpoints in the city), more than enough sunbeds and lounge sets for everyone and a small swimming pool. We greatly enjoyed having breakfast here every morning and watching the sun set every evening. - The design of the hotel is fabulous while remaining functional.
- The staff of the hotel is very kind and helpful.
- The breakfast was very good, including eggs to order, fruits and pasteis de nata.
- Our room was small but sufficient for a city trip (comfortable bed and great shower), and we had a lovely view over the city.
- memmo offers a complimentary tour of Alfama, which was very interesting.
- A few days before our stay, we reviewed tips from the hotel re: restaurants, bars, etc. and information on taxis from the airport. We tried several of the restaurants they recommended, which were all very good.

All in all, we have a great time at memmo and we would definitely stay here again!

One minus point would be that no complimentary water was offered in our room.

April Anniversary Bliss

5/5 - June, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Celebrated our 24th anniversary at the Memmo Alfama - prompt pick-up from the airport with a great driver that provided a "mini-tour" on the short drive to the hotel. Upon arrival, easy check-in and straight to Room 22 - AMAZING corner view with windows overlooking the river (looks like an ocean), even from the bathroom, and some of my favorite churches along with the hotel pool and terrace. The hotel name -Memmo Alfama- translates to "making memories" and the hotel staff certainly is passionate about making that a reality. Started with a chilled bottle of a Portguese rose sparking and yummy dessert to celebrate our anniversary. One of my favorite rose sparkling wines but can't find it in the USA. Yellow toilet paper - a first for me. My only disappointment was not having a soaking tub after all the long walks and major hills that we climbed to stunning vistas of Lisbon. There is a very large shower with great water pressure and huge fluffy towels. The bed was very comfortable and a large closet as well. The room was very quiet at the end of the hall so no one walking by to disturb your sleep.

It was very rainy in early April - unusual for Lisbon. It didn't dampen our memory making experience as the staff called us cabs, arranged a Tuk-Tuk tour, made great restaurant recommendations within walking distance, and we took advantage of the free walking tour. It was one of many highlights for us - my 2nd time in Lisbon but my husband's first. If you love history, stay here in Alfama - the oldest neighborhood in Lisbon - for easy walking of major highlights and churches. Well it is very hilly so wear good walking shoes and visit all the lovely miradouros to take advantage of the vistas of Lisbon! Visit Sao Vincente De Fora - especially on a sunny day - it moved me like no other cathedral I have ever stepped into. Also The Se Cathedral is a landmark to make it easily find the hotel!

The breakfast buffet is also an amazing experience that comes included in the room rate. You can also order off a menu if you want any type of egg dish or hot breakfast! The coffee is self serve and yummy - I tried to keep a carafe on my table but that was a No-No! We are early risers and breakfast was a relaxing experience as we planned our daily adventures.

Can't say enough about the front desk staff and greatly appreciated their recommendations and help in making memories at the hotel and in greater Lisbon!

Memmo Alfalma Hotel

5/5 - June, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Very pretty hotel with the most amazing helpful staff. They go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. The most beautiful part of the hotel is the lovely terrace, which a beautiful view of Lisbon.
You can have breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the terrace. The location is in the heart of the old city.

Great location and friendly staff!

4/5 - June, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We loved being in the Alfama district - it was an easy walk to the water and other key areas of Lisbon. The staff was extremely friendly and it was the best hotel hair dryer I have had outside of the St. Regis in Osaka (important thing to a woman who doesn't travel with one)! We recommend taking the free walking tour - it's a great tour through Alfama that gives you the history of the area. The only cons for us were: (i) the "queen" bed should be made up as a queen -- not two twins separately made up and pushed together; (ii) the ironing board should be a stand-up one -- can't really iron anything with the board on the floor or bed and (iii) the shuttle service they use from the airport should be familiar with where the hotel is located to avoid having to lug your luggage up a steep hill.

Beautiful boutique hotel set in Lisbon

5/5 - May, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

If you are looking for a special stay with designer elements and beautiful vista of the seas surrounding Lisbon, stay at this hotel. The hotel retains certain elements such as the brick oven of the past and blends it perfectly with modern design.

The staff are helpful and lovely, my husband and I loved our room and don't forget to check out the view from the second floor looking out to the sea and the red tiled pool with a cocktail in hand at sunset.

Couldn’t ask for anything more

5/5 - May, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Wonderful hotel with attentive staff who will go the extra mile to help. Comfortable and welll appointed rooms with everything you could need. Fantastic breakfast with a wide choice along with freshly cooked hot items not to mention the wonderful terraces overlooking the estuary.

Lovely Alfama hotel

5/5 - May, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

This is a very pretty intimate hotel, with excellent service. It is very well-situated if you want to stay in charming, hilly, historic Alfama area of the city. The terrace is lovely, with views of the Alfama rooftops and the river. The breakfast was excellent, with freshly-squeezed orange juice and eggs or crepes made to order. Staff was very helpful and sweet. Room was comfortable, with good bed.
Highly recommended!

Hidden Gem

5/5 - May, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Stayed at the beginning and end of our trip to Portugal. Staff was great, breakfast delicious, terrace bar at night was lovely. They stowed our shopping bags until we returned from the Algarve and the bags were in our room when we returned. Only hiccup was the queen bed on our return. We needed two beds as we are travelling friends, but they managed to make the bed up with two sets of bedding (like a sleeping bag only better) and we survived. Location is great and we walked everywhere, developing calves of steel. Would highly recommend to active people.

Chic hotel in great spot

5/5 - April, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

The Memmo might be hard to find down a one way alley, but the hunt is well worth it. The Alfama district is a quieter alternative to the more popular Chiado area. Choose a room on the terrace so you can walk out to enjoy an incredible view of the water. Rooms are small as typical, but well-appointed. Friendly staff and a full hot breakfast made our stay a perfect visit.

Best Views of Lisbon

5/5 - April, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Loved our stay in this boutique hotel! It's slightly hidden and can be easy to pass by (which happened several times in taxis), but we had no problem when hailing Ubers.
The weather was too cold for the terrace to be open, but the views were superb nonetheless and there is a second floor lounge where guests can sip wine and enjoy the sunset. Breakfast spread was also great -- they have your typical pastries, yogurt, fruit, jams, etc. but also made-to-order omelettes and crepes.

Rooms are small, but nothing unusual for European standards. It's within walking distance to the Cathedral and many places to eat - though the surrounding area is cobble-stoned and hilly, so something to keep in mind with footwear and able-bodiedness of your group.

Amazing hotel - HIGHLY recommend

5/5 - April, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Stayed here for 3 nights with my boyfriend and it was absolutely perfect. Our room was well sized, and we even had a small terrace and a huge bathtub. The breakfast every morning was amazing with meats, cheeses, eggs/crepes made to order, juice, champagne etc. The rooftop was beautiful to enjoy while a bit overpriced compared to other wine spots in Lisbon. The service was very friendly and the walking tour around Alfama was very interesting and well worth our time. Would highly recommend to anyone traveling to Lisbon!

Delightful hotel in the old town

5/5 - April, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

This beautifully converted old bakery, in a quiet position in the old town, has been modernised tastefully and with imagination. Our room, though small, had attractive decor, and a river view. The terrace is a great attraction and we had breakfast and evening drinks there daily, enjoying the wonderful views over the tiled rooftops and the river. It more than lived up to our expectations. The breakfast offers wide choices and was excellent. The staff could not have been more helpful and were friendly and appeared to genuinely enjoy looking after their guests.
Our only reservation was that the terrace is open to non residents and on one occasion a noisy party of eight took over the area we were seated in and spoilt our experience. Whilst there is an area for residents only, it was not in the sun (this was late March) and so not appealing. We thought that parties should be restricted to small numbers and that staff should try to ensure residents have some priority. This is after all not a bar but a reasonably expensive hotel.

Welcoming and stylish

5/5 - April, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

The Memmo is tucked away at the end of a narrow, uneven cobbled alleyway that is genuinely difficult to navigate in any vehicle larger than a sub-compact. A standard-size door opens into a small reception area where you start to experience the warm and courteous service that is the hallmark of the hotel. The building was converted from an old bakery and shoe-polish factory (!), and you walk through one of two beautifully preserved old ovens to get to the tiny lift and rooms beyond.

The basic room is tiny, but well appointed and comfortable, although if you’re not a fan of huge rain shower heads, prepare to get wet. But with the lovely terrace overlooking the Tagus, you won’t want to stay in the room. The view is spectacular, and if it’s chilly, blankets can be supplied.

While there isn’t a full restaurant (there are many within seconds of the alley’s entrance) you can enjoy good tapas-style plates and wine on the terrace or in the lounge below. Breakfast is buffet plus cooked to order, generous and carefully prepared, although the seated table can get full, leaving you to cope with chic and low chairs and coffee tables.

I wouldn’t recommend this for a family with small kids - but for a grown-up get together it was a real find.

All in all, a terrific combination of location, comfort and service.
