Even though it rained, we had a great time. Carlos, who is a part of the entertainment team is the hardest working man at Secrets. He lead us through water aerobics, bike riding, the Secrets Idol, etc. Thanks Carlos for making our trip unforgettable!!!Everyone was so helpful, cordial, and all around NICE. Beverly

Fantastic vacation!! We will be back

This resort is our favorite, hands down. The resort is beautiful, the beach is great and you can actually swim. There is some seaweed but they do a great job trying to keep it cleaned up. The service is next to none. From the wait staff at the pool, especially Francisco, to the Concierge (Hector), to Reuben in the Market Café, and I cannot write this review without mentioning the fantastic Entertainment team, from Ross, Tomas, Justin, and Sophia. Everyone made our stay so much more enjoyable, we cannot say enough. Also, the housekeeping staff and the golf cart drivers, all great customer service!! We loved the food and all of the drinks also!! We will be back!!!

This was one of my best Birthday Celebration ever. Starting at arrival we were greeted with special drinks in a decorated pineapple and cold wash clothes soaked in rose water. We were escorted to the Preferred Club for check-in. At the Preferred Club Lounge we were greeted by Karina who is amazing. Everyone was awesome and made us feel welcomed. Every day they had something special planned for us. Our Spa day was the best Rosa and Tuentes were excellent best ever!!! The excellent service from all of the staff put our trip over the top. A first-class experience from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. I kind of felt like I was in the movie Couples Retreat. You're greeted with a glass of champagne and even checking in was a pleasurable experience. The rooms are spacious and very clean. We had a room with an excellent view of the ocean and the pool. All the resort facilities are clean and kept up very nicely. We felt very safe on this resort and on the beach as we passed up two Mexican Police Officers patrolling the beach with Assault Rifles. Service staff were very accommodating and the entertainment staff successfully kept the guests busy throughout the day and into the evening. Food choices are plentiful and if there still isn't enough variety for you, you can head next door to the sister resort...Dreams...for even more dining choices! Most of the daily entertainment is centered around the pool area. Expect to meet & talk to lots of new people from a wide age range. Everyone we encountered was very nice and easy to get along with. The nights on the resort were fun. There's dancing, karaoke, shows, classes, and during the day, they have a spa (expensive) and a golf course if you prefer...there's a lot to do. We stayed for 4 nights and wished we could've stayed an extra day...or two. The weather in late August was hot and a little humid, but not scorching hot. We did not get any rain while we were there. The only negative thing I have to say about this place is about the ocean. The beach was very nice, but with so much sea-weed in the water, it was not enticing enough for us to want to swim in it. Also, the water was not clear at all and reminded me of Galveston water. We did walk up and down the beach but only swam in the pool. Overall, we had one of the best times we've ever had as a couple. We definitely want to go back.

Beautiful resort in the new Playa Mujeres area

4/5 - October, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We had a special stay of at Secrets Playa Mujeres resort last week in a Prefered Club Suite, 2 rooms with a 2 person juczzi on the patio. One of the more luxurious rooms I've had the pleasure of staying in. The hotel mantra is Welcome Home and the staff exudes service and comfort.

The Market Cafe offers a dizzying array of food from all over the world. Take your time and scope out all the things they have to offer. Be sure to see what's cooking on the giant Mongolian grill!

Our dinner experience was special as it was the eve of Mexican Independance Day and there was a independence themed show with an extensive Mexican buffet and fireworks to finish the festive night.

If you want the privacy of one of the Mayan Rivera resorts well south of the hotel zone you should check out Secrets Playa Mujeres much closer and a complete resort with spa, golf, beach and a nice variety of restaurants.

Secrets Playa Mujeres September 2018

I just spent a week at this resort. I traveled with my husband, his brother and sister-in-law, and another couple which are close friends. Overall I was pleased with the resort. I will start with my pros. All of the waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. Especially around the pool area. The bartenders at the pool were fabulous. Fransisco at the sugar reef and pool bar remembered me from one introduction even in different clothes, hats, and sunglasses. The omelette station at the market cafe was really good. Himitsu hibachi and ala carte menu were both good. The hibachi show was great both times we went. Portifino has good food and nice atmosphere as well. All of the bars were completely stocked with top shelf liquor, including the preferred lounge. The theater was nice with some cool shows. The silent party in the Desires dance club was lots of fun. The spa was very nice. The gym was the best I have been to. They had lots of cardio and weight equipment and everything worked! The entertainment staff was great, especially Sophia, Damien, and Tomas. The water balloon fight in the pool was so much fun. The place is rather large but there are golf carts to take you all around. Now for the cons. Preferred breakfast at Oceana had a very non-typical menu and my omelette came out with runny eggs. I would not recommend it for breakfast or dinner. Although the view is beautiful the food was poor. The preferred lounge had limited snacks rather than some of the other resorts. There was limited music at the pool area. Smoking in designated areas only. Not even allowed on balcony. We also went to Dreams a couple of times as well. It is huge and easy to get lost. The fire show on the beach was amazing. The Gaucho Brazilian restaurant was good. Ice cream at Dolche was yummy- light and fluffy. The adults only infinity pool was full of water splashing kids unfortunately.

Secrets Playa Mujeres

Just completed a two week Cancun vacation. Initial plans were a six night stay at Beloved, we wanted to an additional eight nights. Adding to Beloved was very expensive, went to Hotwire.com and saw that we could get a killer deal for Secrets Playa Mujeres so without much due diligence we pulled the trigger (we had stayed at Secrets Silversands and really liked it. Upon arrival I was a little apprehensive, very large resort, golf cart shuttles, huge pool, a little intimidating. It didn’t take log to see that my first impressions were wrong.

Room: We had a jr. suite, no upgrades, no preferred club. The room was very nice, laid out well (nice to have bathroom privacy, others we’ve stayed at were pretty open). Had comfortable bed, large Jacuzzi tub, stocked mini bar (pop, beer, water, and juice). No in-room liquor which was ok with us as we get plenty at pool, bars, and restaurants. Open the curtain, clear view of the ocean which was unexpected but nice. There was a tablet in the room showing event schedules, restaurant menus, and other resort details. The tablet was also used to order room service which was very convenient.

Room Service: We used room a few times, the food was very good, larger portions than expected.

Pools: The pools were outstanding. Very nice as you were able to choose which experience you like: several off shoots where you could have privacy, pretty much your own area; the lively area with pool bar, music and entertainment; the infinity pool, kind of floating around chilling (Secrets offer floats to use, we brought our own for backup). There were plenty of lounge chairs pretty much wherever, however you like. The only exception was the row of lounge chairs by the infinity pool overlooking the ocean (very nice), they were pretty much all taken by 8:00. I arrived a little before 7:00 and had my choice, also nice watching the sun rise. Pool service was outstanding, very rarely finished with the first before offering the next one. Special shout out to David, he does a great job, we very much appreciated him.

Beach: The beach area was very large, not crammed like many are. The cabanas were reserved for Preferred Members which didn’t bother us, regular area was fine. The seaweed was not as bad as it had been on previous visits but, it is there. I took my float into the ocean a few times, paddling out to the buoys and floating ashore… very relaxing.

Restaurants: While in Cancun we primarily eat fish and seafood.

Breakfast was a buffet for non-preferred. Oceana was open for preferred guest breakfast. Again, we were fine with the buffet, nice selection, nice egg station. I am a fruit eater for breakfast, very nice assortment, very nice quality. They have “Tajin” available (have to ask the server), spicy citrus salt/pepper which is great on fresh fruit.

We ate lunch everyday at Oceana, whole fried fish, salmon, fish tacos, and ceviche. We have been to a few high level resorts, Oceana was by far our favorite lunch spot. They have a powdered habanero oil that was painfully good (have to ask for it). Shout out to David for taking care of us like he did, much appreciated.
Dinner: Portifino the Italian restaurant, it was good, portions a little on the small side. Bordeaux the French restaurant was a little disappointing, portions were very small. The Bordeaux at Secrets Silversands was one our favorites, here not so much (it didn’t help that we were seated next to a group of 20). We ate dinner a few times at Oceana which again, is very good. We did not eat at Seaside Grill as we don’t eat red meat. Himitsu, Japanese restaurant was very good, sashimi was first class. Only had dessert at El Patio on our last night which was very good. As a special send off Octavio (special thanks for ***** service) made us Mayan Coffee table side, a favorite of ours.

Drinks: All drinks at pool, bars, and restaurants were the real deal, several top shelf choices.

Entertainment: What sealed the deal for us was the Entertainment crew. This was our sixth Cancun vacation, they were by far the best. Our MVP of the resort was Carlos, very genuine and personable (thanks for teaching us Spanish slang). Also shout outs to Thomas’, Sophia, Damien, Ross, and Justin. My wife was there every morning at 11:00 for water Zumba and 12:00 for water aerobics… the Secrets crew really got into it which made it really fun. We went to three shows Circus Show was very good, Urban Show was ok, Secrets Idol was our favorite.

All in all a very nice vacation…Secrets Playa Mujeres *****

Great trip to mexico

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Booked this trip for 4 nights and our first trip to any secrets or cancun. We loved the entire property and all of the staff. We booked the preferred club and were very pleased with the room view and the room itself. Also, we loved being able to have access to the beach day beds which is where we spent most of the days. Miguel was the best server we had on the beach always coming by to check on our drinks. The food was good everywhere we ate and we used room service as well as the poolside grill for snacks. For dinner we loved Portofino we ate there 2 of the nights we stayed and it was delicious. Artemio was our server both times and he was first class and what you would expect at a 5 star restaurant in the states. Overall we loved the experience here and will be returning soon!

Secrets Playa Mujeres - A Singles Perspective

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

This is my 5th visit to an AM Resort (Secrets (Mexico) - The Vine, Playa Maroma & Aura in Cozumel and Now
in Bavaro, D.R.) and this certainly lived up to the Secrets name! I was only there for 3 nights at the start of an 11 night Mexican vacation but I'll start by saying I would definitely go back!
Arrival is a breeze I have found when using AMSTAR. In all my travels, I have used them and again they certainly delivered. They met me on arrival at the airport and put me in a private car for the drive to the resort. Yes, the resort is away from the central Cancun area, but my objective when going to a resort is to enjoy it and not necessarily leave the compound.
Upon arrival I was met with the cooling towel and sparkling wine and was taken directly to the reception area where I was checked in expeditiously. Since I was there about 1pm, my room wasn't ready so I went to the buffet and had lunch. When I was finished, I went back to reception and given my room key and taken to my room.
This is a large complex and the golf cart system is great. Although I only used it on occasion (the walk is easy and enjoyable) I never had to wait for more than a minute and most times a cart was sitting there waiting for a passenger.
I was in building 4 on the 3rd floor and had a very nice view of the pool area and also the ocean. My room was spacious, very clean and what I have come to expect from Secrets. The mini bar was stocked, the AC worked very well and so I settled in for my 3 night stay.
My first night I ate at the Oceana restaurant where the service and food was very good. Traveling solo, I have been put in my corners than I care to talk about and sometimes forgotten but not this time! The service was on point and I had an ocean side table where I could look out, enjoy the view and enjoy a leisurely dinner. Unlike Cozumel where the mosquitoes were horrendous, my entire time there I never felt one. I'm not sure if it is because of the constant ocean breeze or the fact that they move air around these open air restaurants by the use of fans but bugs were not an issue. My 2nd night I ate at Portofino and again was treated very well with good service and good food. My final night I ate at the Steak House and yes, the service and food were very good.
Breakfast was at the Market Cafe and a shout out needs to go to Luis. My first morning, I was met with a very warm and friendly smile and given prompt, attentive service. My coffee cup was never emptied and Luis couldn't do enough as far as service went. I watched him with the other patrons as well and if there's an "ambassador" for the idea of "customer service" it is him. I named him as my favorite employee when I did the departure survey. He got off each day to a wonderful start.
The Beach in one word....Gorgeous! Now problems getting a chair and an umbrella and yes, there was a good bit of sea grass, so if you want to complain - tell Mother Nature! The crew did a great job cleaning it up and I found it a non-issue. Beach service was very good and unlike Secrets Aura in Cozumel - the bottled water was ice cold!
The Entertainment people I'm sure were there but only once was I ever approached (not that it really mattered because I enjoy just lounging). I didn't go to the pool or the spa or any of the evening entertainment that was offered. I did spend a couple of enjoyable evenings in the Rendevouz Bar where the frozen strawberry daiquiri's were made with crushed ice and not a mix! Awesomely spectacular!!
While I was there I was offered the chance to talk to a representative about the Unlimited Vacation Club. I wrote about this in my Secrets Aura Cozumel review last year but this year they made me an offer that I just couldn't say no to so I signed up for their Choices plan which is for 5 years. I will get my initial investment back at least and since there are a few more Secrets I would like to visit, I felt it was worth the financial investment. It's too early to tell how this will all work out so my opinion is...look past all the typical "selling tactics", get to the bottom line on cost and ROI and if you think it's for you - go for it.
There is the Dreams next door which i didn't go to for a couple reasons....one being I was only staying here for 3 nights.
After a real downturn and honestly some negative feelings about AM Resorts (after visiting Aura), Playa Mujeres definitely changed my view, and so when checking out on Friday after 3 beautiful days, I really wasn't ready to say goodbye so I made a mental note to seriously consider coming back here for a week. But little did I realize what was about to happen (and if you want to find out...see my review of Zoetry Villa Rolandi, Isla Mujeres).

Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf &Spa Resort

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Sophia...Sophia...Sophia are the calls I heard as my husband and I were walking with Sophia Fuego to a special ceremony she planned to honor our daughter who passed away. Many guests vied for her attention as we followed her. She remember each by name and laughed good naturedly as she shared inside jokes with several people as we made our way to the beach.
My husband and I wore our grief like a garment. It was our 29th wedding anniversary, but letting go of sorrow, even in happy moments, seemed impossible. Our daughter passed away two and a half years ago, and this is the first year we have tried to celebrate anything.
I met Sophia at the American Idol contest. I was chosen to be a judge. As part of the entertainment staff, she helped with the show, so we chatted about contestants. The next day, my husband and I ran into Sophia again on the beach; we got talking. I told her our story. She felt a connection with us and our loss, and saw we needed to heal. She set up a ceremony to enable us to say goodbye. She even came in on her day off to lead the ceremony. It was beautiful. We sent roses asail in the ocean along with the guilt associated with losing a child. I actually felt lighter as we watched the roses catch the surf. After the ceremony, we had lunch with Sophia and she gave us a heartwarming letter and a gift.
Sitting here now looking back on the vacation, I realize that Sophia Fuego made the difference. She took a vacation and made it special and not not just for us. Every once in a while in life you run across a person who just seems to know what is needed in any situation. I am reminded of the faces of other guests who called to her..all with stories of their own—stories that Sophia played a role in.
All resorts talk of high quality services. They boast of welcoming you home, but I have never felt that on vacation before. Sophia Fuego is the physical embodiment of that statement: she is what sets this resort apart from all others. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to spent time at Secrets Play Mujeres, and I feel blessed that Sophia was there. Thank you!

A trip to stay with us forever

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We set off on an anniversary trip to meet my brother and sister in law and enjoy an amazing looking resort. The resort was all we expected and more. It was beautiful and relaxing and all we could’ve asked for. The one thing we didn’t expect was how special we were made to feel from the entertainment staff, in particular Sophia Fuego. My wife was chosen as a judge for the secrets American idol competition and Sophia just happened to be working with the judges that night. The show was great and my wife felt a connection with her that night. The next day we ran into Sophia on the beach and bonded as a friendship was brewing and shared moments about our lives that were tough to get through. Sophia learned about our daughter Samantha passing and later that night came to us and wanted to do something special for her and us. The next day she came in on her only day off and had a ceremony for her with a few other of the staff and then had lunch for us along with a gift. I don’t know what we did to get lucky enough to have Sophia cross our paths at the moment she did but I believe our daughters hands was in it. I see a lot of reviews about Sophia and all I can say is that she is one of the most honest, caring and loving souls my wife and I have ever met and secrets is extremely lucky to have her. If you don’t believe me just take a trip to secrets Playa Mujeres and ask for her. It will be worth the trip.

Love Secrets Playa Mujeres!!

You can't go wrong with a stay at Secrets Playa Mujeres. Fun, beautiful resort. Pool activites and staff were awesome.. Food excellent, beach bar excellent, beach staff again....excellent! I love this resort :)

Great Experience! Well worth it.

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

My husband and I just got back from Secrets Playa Mujeres. We spent 7 days 6 nights there. It was also our wedding anniversary.
We arrived to the resort and they had champagne waiting for us as we got out the car. They all said Welcome Home. Not just 1, but at least a half dozen staff members as we entered and walked around. We bought the preferred room package with an ocean view. They ended upgrading us since it was our anniversary to the preferred master ocean view suite. For free. We were escorted into the Preferred Club where concierge checked us in and gave us all the info we needed to know about the resort. While we sat the bartender asked if we wanted drinks. Preferred Club had its own dedicated bartender and had no problem making us Don Julio margaritas that were delicious! After we got all the info we needed we ate some delicious small fingers foods next to the bar which was always stocked. Breakfast lunch dinner and desserts smoothy shots with wine were my favorite and the tiny ham and cheese sandwiches yummy! I'd get Preferred Club again if I have the chance no doubt.
We got there at 12 and our room wasn't ready until 3 which we expected since check in is at 3. We had a great lunch at Oceanside. My husband loves the Mango Ceviche. Our room was ready at 3. There was a banner on our door that said Happy Anniversary. We were in building 2 right on the corner. 1.5 bathrooms, living room, a bar with an island, 2 tvs, king size bed, 2 hot tubs one on the balcony one in the room, 2 balconies, walk in closet, 2 head rain shower. Best part of the bathroom is the dividing mirror/wall in the bathroom slides!! The shower is glass so if you pull back the sliding mirror you can see straight out to the ocean. It was AMAZING!! And the hot tub is right next to that same mirror and you can see the ocean while you're in the tub. Just breathtaking. Direct ocean views from both balconies and direct view of the entire resort and pool area. Was an amazing view from the outdoor hot tub too.
The food was great. Lots of selection. Kind of annoying that the buffets aren't open all day. Overall I give the food a 9/10. They had super fancy to very casual restaurants. All different cuisines and yes with dress codes for dinner. But it gave you a reason to dress up and I didn't mind. Very clean and friendly staff at every single one. We did tip most of our waitstaff and bartenders. They never expected it or were looking, but they just go above and beyond you just want to show them you appreciate their hard work and dedication to making you happy. Bring your singles!
The Entertainment Team! AMAZING GROUP! Inver, Sofia, Daymuin, Jessica, Luigi, Manny just to name a few were incredible. You can really tell they want to make sure we had fun and everyone on their team did just that. They had activities posted starting at 9am all the way to 11pm for the day. My husband and I always did water aerobics which was not your typical boring class. They were jamming to great music and got everyone in the pool practically to participate. These guys would literally get in the pool with you and teach it. It was just always about having fun. Pool volleyball was always a blast. Zumba, cigar rolling, crazy game, mixolgy class, yoga the list goes on. All free and included. Live bands played during the day or djs. Various music genres everyday. The best was the kayak your with Daymuin. Daymuin tought us how to kayak and before you know it we were leading the group. The bike tour with Inver was great. We went to the ranch. He showed us different types of indigenous plants. Went up to the watch tower and looked at yachts. Both these guys knew what they were talking about and still wanted to make sure all of us had fun and that we were safe. And we were. Best night was Wednesday night. Fire show and silent party. 10/10 to the E Team.
We got to go to Dreams too. Great food there beautiful resort. Kids weren't too distracting. By the looks on their faces day or night they were having fun. We will definitely bring our kids for the next trip.
Cons: Poor linen quality. Last thing you want to feel on sun burned skin is scratchy bed sheets, towels and robes. Go the Cosmo in Vegas and you'll instantly derl the difference between the two. At least give the master suite upgraded linens.
Desires night club. Fix the damn AC. Yes it might not be busy season and maybe not priority when it's hotter in there then outside you know there's a problem. Suffocating is what the temp was. Husband and I couldn't stay in there long to dance bc we were drenched. Fix it. We stopped going there bc if this issue. And I know you all know about it too.

Either way, we'll be back!! Overall trip was a 9.5/10. Worth every penny. Go!!

Great Getaway for Couples

4/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

I visited Secrets Playa Mujeres and it was great getaway off the beaten path of Cancun Central. The restaurants were great. The beach was quiet and picturesque. The pools were very nice.

It is adults only which is very nice but it also offers access to Dream Playa Mujeres which is for families. There are also quick trips that you can take to Isla Mujeres for the day or evening via sailboat.

Secrets Playa Mujeres has a great mix of fun and activity, as well as quiet downtime for couple to relax and rekindle.

I highly recommend it!

Secrets Playa Mujeres is amazing!

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

My husband and I recently stayed at Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf and Spa Resort and loved every minute of it. The resort itself is extremely clean and well taken care of. Our hotel room and view of the ocean was gorgeous and we could not have been happier with our accommodations. The food at the many restaurants to choose from was prepared perfectly. The hotel staff was exceptional starting with our check in experience (with Veronica) to the minute we said goodbye to so many wonderful people. Jarlin (pool concierge), Inver, Jessica, David, the entire entertainment team, the fitness center employee, and so many others made each day enjoyable, fun, and comfortable morning until night. We truly recommend this resort not just because of the stunning surroundings but because of the wonderful employees.

Viva Mexico!

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

This was our second stay at a Secret resort and we were not disappointed. Our "swim out" room was so handy to have, the selection of restaurants was incredible, yes, we had a bit of waiting time but the food and service was worth waiting for. Luis, at Bordeaux restaurant, was so friendly, he prepared a special dessert for us. The breakfast and lunch team at Market Café were always in a good mood and looked really well after us, especially Luis, Christian and Ruven, not to mention the beautiful harp music that greeted us every breakfast. The Entertainment team we so funny and lived up to their name. Sofia, Inver, Alex, Luis, Chris, Damian, Carlos and Jasmin made sure we, and other guests, engage in Zumba dancing, Aqua aerobics, kayaking, rifle shooting, archery, water or beach volleyball, tequila tasting, sushi classes and many more. Our favourite evening entertaining was the Silent Disco and the Circus. The concierge, Hector, was always ensuring that we were happy and had everything being it around the pool or by the beach. The yoga classes with Claire were truly relaxing, the golf cart rides to Dreams and to other destinations with Eduardo were never dull. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant, relaxing and unforgettable. We can't wait to come back next summer!

Amazing Vacation!!

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We visited Secrets for the first time this August and it will definitely not be our last. This resort is absolutely stunning. Everything from the rooms, to the restaurants, the pool, and the beach are gorgeous!! Every restaurant we ate at had delicious food. We especially loved the Fiesta on Sunday. One of our favorite parts of the resort was that it offered entertainment daily. We highly recommend the Rock Show and the Circus Show. The entertainers will leave you speechless. Sophia from the entertainment staff went above and beyond to make sure we truly enjoyed our vacation. She recommended excursions and informed us of the nightly entertainment. Sophia even met up with us the last day to see us off. If you visit this resort make sure you get to know Sophia she will make sure your vacation is everything you wanted it to be!!! Thank you Sophia and all of the staff for making our vacation amazing!!!!!

Great adults only resort

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We just returned yesterday from a week-long vacation to Secrets Playa Mujeres. It was a wonderful and relaxing experience. The resort is quite beautiful situated primarily around a series of pools with the final one near the ocean being a huge infinity pool with views of the Caribbean and Isla Mujeres in the background. The beach at this resort is wonderful with soft sand and wide stretches, with plenty of seats. We stayed on the preferred side which gave us access to the palapas. This was my favorite part of the resort. Only problem was that you needed to wake up early (before 7) to get one of the Bali beds. The beach/pool concierges work extremely hard to make this very comfortable for you. We had great service from Fernando, Alex, and Jarlin at the beach and pool. They were all friendly and accommodating. The waitresses who walk up and down this beach all day were also great. We had Blanca and Marlene who provided friendly services to us.

We spent most of the trip going back and forth between the beach and pools. The pool area after about 11 am starts to become a little louder as the entertainment staff begins their fun activities. They kept the crowd very engaged. There are plenty of activities to engage in if you so desire. You could easily do nothing as well. Some of the activities around the pool, especially as guests drank more, became a little rowdy at times. We took a kayak tour with Sophia from the entertainment staff. She is a character and full of personality.

We found the food to be better than several other resorts we have stayed at in the area. We especially loved the French restaurant, Bordeaux, which we went to twice. They have delicious food (get lots of onion rolls) and great service as well. We also really liked Himitsu for a nice assortment of Asian food and sushi. We did not eat at the hibachi grills at the restaurant as you had to make a reservation earlier in the day. All the other restaurants do not need reservations and we never had to wait. Another great restaurant was Seaside Grill. We went there for lunch multiple times and had great food every time. We did venture to Dreams a couple of times, but did not enjoy the food as much. Perhaps it was the screaming children, which we did not have on the Secrets side.

Several of the restaurants (Bordeaux, Himitsu, and Portofino) and the night club and nightly entertainment facility are near the main lobby. It is walking distance, but golf carts come about every minute to bring you back and forth. This was a great service and much better than other resorts in regards to transportation.

We were also given a romantic dinner on the pool overlooking the water. Unfortunately, it rained the night of our dinner so we were given the option of doing it in our room or at a restaurant. We chose the Mexican restaurant due to the location. The manager, Octavio, had prepared a beautiful table for and made it a very memorable evening, even though it was inside. The food they gave us was delicious.

Our room was very nice, but the bathroom felt a little tight. We had a hot tub in the bathroom and on the deck. The one in the bathroom was excessive.

One day, we took a day trip to Isla Mujeres. We paid $50 per person with a group that sells beach services on the beach. We had a private water taxi (about 15 minutes) to the island. The island is really pretty and authentic Mexican. Playa Norte (the beach on the northern side of the island) is beautiful with crystal clear waters. Expect to pay about $20 for chairs and an umbrella with many different beach companies vying for your business. They also offer food and drinks. We rented a golf cart for the day ($70), which is the best way to get around the island. We traveled all the way South (much less crowded) and visited the turtle conservation museum as it started to downpour. We drove around the western side of the island which has beautiful houses and views and is more isolated. I would have like to have spent more time there to explore. Many good restaurant options.

We did do the timeshare sales pitch the second morning, mostly because they offered very good incentives. We ended up with a massage each and 150.00 in credits during our stay. The spa was very nice and the massages were quite good. They also have a hydrotherapy treatment you can do before the massage.

As for the sales pitch, despite their promised 90 minutes including breakfast, it became 150 minutes. The programs they offer are essentially a prepaid discount program which would make sense if you plan to visit a Secrets or other brands the company owns around the world, multiple times per year. You essentially pay the wholesale cost of a room. Did not make sense for us, but it might make sense if you love going to these resorts often.

Overall, we had a nice, relaxing, and stress-free vacation. Secrets is a pretty resort with excellent service, good food, and lovely accommodations. We would definitely return or perhaps try some of their other properties.
